About the project

As an eLearning researcher, I am always looking for ways to help students be more successful in the virtual learning setting.

"Trust but Verify", relies on the Learning Coach meeting with their student for five minutes every school day, and once at the beginning of the week to be ready for what is coming.

* "Trust but Verify"

The Russian proverb Doveryai, no proveryai (Russian: Доверяй, но проверяй; Trust, but verify) is often attributed to President Ronald Regan, who used it when referring to the tenuous relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union (http://www.suzannemassie.com/reaganYears.html)

Weekly - Look at the week's schedule

  •   Share your weekly schedule using the "My Schedule" tab
  • Review class connects and identify any conflicts
  • Student is responsible for contacting teachers with required conflicting sessions to determine a solution to this problem.

Create the PLAN together.

Weekly - Look at assignments

Look at assignments for the week.

This looks overwhelming!

  • Break things down.
  • Look at due dates.
  • Monday has the most live class connects AND the most assignments in the example. HOW can that happen?
  • Are there items that can wait to be completed until Tuesday or Wednesday?
  • Are some of the assignments beginning points for larger assignments due later?

 Create the PLAN together.

Just Five Minutes a Day

Daily

  • Check all of the classes on the My Classes tab.
  • Spend a few minutes looking at grades, overdue assignments, and other alerts that appear on the screen.
  • Discuss anything that is not meeting expectations (for either the student or the family).
  • Figure out what it will take to fix it.
  • Brainstorm solutions – extra help from the LC, teacher, or just taking more time.

Communication and Commitment

I believe that a consistent commitment between the student and Learning Coach, high school students are more successful in online learning. As a K-12 eLearning researcher, I would like you to help me prove that is true.

In order to do so, I would like you to fill out a survey once a week and tell me how the "Trust, but Verify" system worked that week. Again, completing the survey is essential to helping tens of thousands of students around the world do better in online learning – just by opening lines of communication between the student and their Learning Coach.

Parental Authorization - Electronic or Download

Before any student can participate in research, it is important that they are protected. The student's Legal Guardian needs to agree that the student may participate. There is a "paper" document attached to this email explaining that I will be collecting data, but that data will be made anonymous before it is shared with anyone. I may publish the results, but again, all of the participants will be anonymous.

If you are interested in working together and investing 5 minutes a day to team up to be a successful team, please complete the Parental Permission for Children Participation in Research electronic document found here:  https://forms.gle/KLLe8z79nLfsipMy9

Or download below.
